Dr Benjamin Dyer is a Consultant Cardiologist with experience in all areas of cardiology. He sees patients with any symptom or concerns that may be related to the heart, including chest pain, palpitations, dizzy spells / blackouts, breathlessness, high cholesterol, high blood pressure as well as undertaking ‘Heart Health’ checks and assisting patients with medical weight management for cardiovascular health eg GLP1 agonists such as Wegovy.
His subspecialty interests include Heart Failure, Cardiomyopathies and Cardiac Devices (the implantation, monitoring and optimisation of pacemakers, cardiac resynchronisation therapy and defibrillators for the benefit of patients with heart failure and heart rhythm problems).
He studied Medicine at Imperial College School of Medicine, Imperial College London where he graduating in 2007 with a Distinction in Clinical Practice and was awarded the Cheadle Prize for 2nd overall best performance in Clinical Medicine finals. During his undergraduate studies he undertook an intercalated BSc [Hons] in Medical Sciences with Cardiovascular Sciences and during medical school he spent an elective working with Selian Lutheran Hospital, near Arusha in Tanzania and outreach into the surrounding National Parks with Catholic Flying Doctors.
Dr Dyer’s clinical training was undertaken in Central and West London with rotations through Hammersmith Hospital, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, Royal Marsden Hospital, Royal Brompton Hospital, and he completed his subspecialty training at St George’s Hospital and St Thomas’ Hospital.
He completed a Research PhD at the National Heart & Lung Institute, Imperial College London and the Royal Brompton Hospital, London looking at the application of label-free autofluorescence lifetime metrology as a novel technique to assess heart disease. He has also undertaken clinical postgraduate study at the University of Zürich, Switzerland on the competitive European Heart Academy’s prestigious 2-year Heart Failure Postgraduate Course at Universitätsspital (University Hospital) Zürich.
Dr Dyer was a consultant cardiologist at St Thomas’ Hospital, London before he became a consultant at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital in late 2019 to realise his long-held ambition to move his family to the West Country.
Dr Dyer is a European-Heart Rhythm Association-accredited Cardiac Device Specialist. He speaks French and Italian.
